A new report from Enterprise, discusses the the powerful partnership of neighborhoods and schools for community revitalization. According to the report, "in select communities across the country, school-centered revitalization models show how to combine the best practices in neighborhood development with educational best practices at local elementary schools."

The Capital One sponsored report, "Reconnecting Schools and Neighborhoods: An Introduction to School-Centered Community Revitalization" found that by integrating school improvement efforts into community development plans, low- income communities can adequately address the central concerns of all families: the education and well being of their children. The model concentrates on five core elements:

  • School improvement
  • Housing
  • Early child hood education
  • Children's health
  • Workforce and economic development

The report can be downloaded at http://www.practitionerresources.org/cache/documents/647/64701.pdf.
